ABOUT THE BIBLE
All Scripture contained in the Old and New Testaments is verbally, plenarily, and inerrantly inspired by God. It is the authoritative guide and instruction for all Christian understanding, life and ministry. The Bible, God’s Word has withstood the test of time and continues to speak to man about the reality of life on earth and the promise of eternal life to come.
ABOUT GOD
There is but one God eternally existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Each is infinite, eternal, and almighty.
We believe that Jesus Christ, the Son, is fully God and fully man. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, and He lived a sinless life. He died; shedding His blood in His substitutionary death for sinners, then was buried, arose from the grave, ascended into heaven, and is now seated at the right hand of the Father.
The Holy Spirit, Who is Lord and giver of life, convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgment, and unites man to Jesus Christ by faith. We believe the Holy Spirit seals and indwells all believers.
ABOUT MAN
Man was created in the image and likeness of God. It was through man's free will that he disobeyed God. This produced physical and spiritual death which separated him from God. Thus, each human being is born with an inherited sin nature. As a result of this each human is in need of divine salvation offered freely by God through the Finished Work of the Cross of Calvary.
History of GGIS Brasov
Founded in 2001 under the name Greater Grace International Academy, it was originally intended to be a school for the children of missionaries. These children from other countries had difficulties adapting to the Romanian system of education. Throughout the years the founders and administrators saw the need of more than just missionary children; it was needed by many expatriates whose children could not adapt to difficult education standards in Romania. The school began to fill with not just missionary children, but also children of local businessmen, all from different parts of the world. We are now a growing international “community” with many different countries and faiths represented here. Just like when we were founded, we still put a high value on academic discipline, moral integrity, and our Christian faith. It is our goal to give every child who attends GGIS an excellent education so that the child will be able to excel in the rest of his or her life.
Foundational Principles
Under Jesus Christ, the GGIS staff as one unified team endeavors to:
- Maintain high academic standards and goals.
- Be a school which offers education to students of all nationalities without discrimination on the basis of race or faith.
- Provide an education for the children of GGWO missionaries, who are an active part of Team Romania. Provide an employment opportunity as a means of support for GGWO missionaries.
- Create a nurturing environment with sufficient structure and discipline to promote effective learning and developing a feeling of worth in each individual.
- Aid parents in preparing their children for their future by teaching and showing them how to live.
- Meet the diverse needs of our client families by providing an environment where academic excellence, personal character based on Christian principles, and spiritual inspiration are consistent priorities.
- Foster an appreciation of and respect for Romania as well as for the ethnic and cultural diversity within in the school and the country.
- Provide the opportunity for salvation, discipleship, and direction for all students while maintaining cultural sensitivity and a loving environment for those who have not yet embraced the Christian faith.
- Care for the well being of the teaching and administrative staff.
- Teach, honor, and uphold the Bible daily, doing all to the glory of God.
- Support Christ-centered education as well as the propagation of the Gospel.
Schools Stance on Discipline
At GGIS we are firm believers of discipline
instead of punishment. We teach the kids the difference between discipline and punishment. Punishment is described as “a penalty inflicted for an offense, fault.” This carries the idea of payment. We do not want the children to think that we have a payment system at this school. For example, the school does not operate in a manner of, “If I do this wrong, then I just have to do this punishment in order to pay for it.” On the other hand, discipline is described as, “training to act in accordance with rules, activity, exercise, or a regimen that develops or improves a skill; training, and, behavior in accord with rules of conduct; behavior and order maintained by training and control.” This is the attitude we take in our approach of discipline. We think it’s important that every parent, student, and staff member is in agreement with this stance on discipline.
Speaking English
At the moment, the school is represented by over 10 different countries. While the school respects all these different nationalities, cultures and languages, we do insist that only English be spoken by students during school hours. We believe that a total immersion into the English language will result in comprehension and fluency. This policy is to be followed by the students at all times while on school premises and during school events. The administration will enforce this policy at all times.
We do understand that new students with no background in the English language would be unable to communicate at all. Therefore we do make allowances for all students in the ESL program. However, once the student is released from the ESL program, he/she must converse in English.
This policy has proven to be an effective one and very beneficial to academic success.
